Publishers churning out camera-specific books

Publishers have churned out plenty of books about digital photography, and now there are an increasing number of camera-specific books. Why is this? Partly because cameras are essentially powerful computers these days, their manuals are often slim (or insufficient), and photographers are looking for additional resources to help them out.

Consider  Mastering the Nikon D5000 by Darrell Young, a guide to the popular  Nikon D5000 DSLR. The book is the latest title from Nikonians Press.

Here’s what the publisher has to say about it:

Darrell’s approach in teaching the reader to master this camera avoids the purely instructional technique, favoring a more friendly and advisory tone. He blends his decades of Nikon camera experience with an intuitive understanding of the readers’ most likely questions regarding specific camera functions and features. Rather than just list all options for the myriad of camera settings and adjustments, he explains the background behind each setting and shares his personal recommendations.

Other camera-specific titles include  Canon PowerShot G10 and G11: From Snapshots to Great Shots and  Canon EOS 50D Digital Field Guide.
