Cameraphones have typically been used for throwaway photos, but that's all changing now, and there's no better place to see this in action than the stunning, beautifully designed book by photographer Chase Jarvis, "The Best Camera Is the One That's with You." The idea behind the book is quite simple: Use the camera that you've got. And the camera many of us have is the one with our phones—in Jarvis's case, the iPhone camera.

David Pogue, the technology columnist for The New York Times, had an interesting blog post about a column he never wrote. He'd suggested a column about what he bought this past year, but then he realized he didn't buy enough stuff. Well, not enough hardware, at least.

Publishers have churned out plenty of books about digital photography, and now there are an increasing number of camera-specific books. Why is this? Partly because cameras are essentially powerful computers these days, their manuals are often slim (or insufficient), and photographers are looking for additional resources to help them out.

The Canon S90 is at the top of an eWeek list of the best cameras to buy this holiday season. I've been intrigued by the S90 myself, as my Canon G9 stopped working suddenly—I'm about to send it off to Canon—and I've been wondering whether a camera that's a bit more lightweight might be in order.

Kids love digital photography, and if you've got a camera in your house—and if you're a parent, you do!—then they're probably looking to snap images with yours. But do you really want your lovable (yet clumsy) four-year-old to use your camera? Even if it's a durable model, the controls may stymie him.
