Combining podcasts, restaurant reviews, recipes, essays, and a surprising amount of musical talent, Adam Roberts, the Amateur Gourmet, has created a fresh blog for food lovers. The blog began in 2004, hitting it big a year later, when Roberts posted a recipe for a cupcake that resembled Janet Jackson’s notorious breast (the one televised during her Superbowl “wardrobe malfunction”). Since then, the site has received awards from the blogging community and attention from mainstream media. The accolades are well deserved. Roberts captures his culinary adventures with pictures, web videos, comic strips, and clever prose. Even visitors with no experience in the kitchen can appreciate the Amateur Gourmet’s obvious zest for food, and they might be able to learn a thing or two in between bouts of laughter. The musical about frozen yogurt and the dinner music medley were especially amusing. Roberts may call himself the Amateur Gourmet, but he has expertly created a blog that is entertaining and educational.
