The idea is a simple one: Grab an old photograph of yourself, and take a new one in the exact same pose. Then submit them for online viewing by people around the world. This idea, billed as Young Me, Now Me, is an unexpectedly moving testament to the power of photography. Many of the images are genuinely emotional, as you see the similarities in people's visages, even if they're many years older, wrinkled, and no longer an innocent kid.

Picnik, currently at #42 on our Photo 100 list, is being purchased by Google. As the company noted in a blog post, "More than ever before, people are sharing and storing their photos online. But until recently, you had to edit your photos using client software on your computer." No longer.

Cameraphones have typically been used for throwaway photos, but that's all changing now, and there's no better place to see this in action than the stunning, beautifully designed book by photographer Chase Jarvis, "The Best Camera Is the One That's with You." The idea behind the book is quite simple: Use the camera that you've got. And the camera many of us have is the one with our phones—in Jarvis's case, the iPhone camera.
