“Netherland”

Netherland (Pantheon Books, 2008) is a novel described by Dwight Garner, in the New York Times, as “the wittiest, angriest, most exacting and most desolate work of fiction we’ve yet had about life in New York and London after the World Trade Center fell.” Interestingly, Maria Russo, writing in the Los Angeles Times, comments that “the novel is a lucid celebration of a complex sport that is little understood here, but it’s also a book about the emotional legacies of Sept. 11, and it’s a book that takes up some deep and enduring literary themes: connection, estrangement and, not least, what it means to be American.”
