While Lens primarily showcases the work of Times photographers, it also covers the best of videos and portfolios from other newspapers, picture agencies, and magazines. A behind-the-scenes section shares with viewers the in-depth analysis that goes on behind photographs that achieve international fame and recognition. For instance, in one article, Terril Jones shared with Lens his never before released picture of the “Tank Man of Tiananmen,” which captures on street level the few moments before the world famous confrontation between man and machine. Arguably the most fascinating part of Lens is “On the Assignment,” a page devoted completely to the portfolios of Times photographers with interviews explaining what they seek to express and how they effectively do it.
